The forest was silent and snowy as I parked the hearse at the trailhead and grabbed a chain saw out of the trunk.

Suspicious? Maybe, but I wasn’t burying a body. Hearses had massive amounts of cargo space. Which was much needed, since I was in the woods to find some Christmas cheer—or at least some decorations.

Pulling the sled behind me, Salem riding on it, I entered the ancient forest and searched for low-hanging branches. Yes, you could buy garland in the Christmas market. But fresh was better.

And no, I was not stealing. This land belonged to Morticia’s future brother-in-law, Matt Frost. And after Jonathan had impregnated my sister, I deserved some free greenery.

Maybe Penny was right, I thought as I sawed through a branch. Maybe I did need a boyfriend. Otherwise, Morticia and I would have less and less in common, and we’d only see each other on, well, Christmas, which was a family-obligation holiday. She was going to have a big, warm house with lots of children. Jonathan seemed like the type to want more.

Meanwhile, I would be the weird aunt with all the cats who would get annoying questions like When are you going to get a boyfriend? And Why do you have so many cats? It wasn’t like I had a line of men waiting to court me or whatever the kids called it these days.

But there was Luke.

I threw the branch onto the sled and started on the next one.

Luke just wanted to sleep with me. He didn’t actually like me, right?
